On Saturday 12 October Grand Junction at St Mary Magdalene’s welcomed more than 250 local people to celebrate the official opening of the new community building.
The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Ruth Bush, alongside Karen Buck MP, took great pleasure in doing the honours and officially declaring the project open.
During the celebration, children and adults enjoyed a range of heritage-focused activities, including lego buildings, textile screen printing, dressing up for Victorian family portraits, and storytelling; a snapshot of the range of activities on offer through Grand Junction’s community heritage programme.
The wonderful All Sing! Harrow Road Choir, Rhumzy and Kurdish musician, Saleh Zarei, added to the lively community atmosphere, offering something for a range of musical tastes.
Tours of the building were offered by Father Henry Everett, to showcase the fascinating heritage of the church and the extensive restoration work.
A big thank you to the wonderfully dedicated volunteers who helped to prepare and deliver the event, and to everyone who came along to help us celebrate this exciting step.
