At Grand Junction we want young people to explore their creativity, feel welcome and know that their voice can be heard and is important. We work with young people to develop new skills, meet new friends, enhance their employability and give them a platform to express themselves and feel valued.
Current projects are:
Breaking the Industry: A youth-led employability programme. We interviewed young people about what creative jobs they would like in the future. They created videos talking about their dream artistic jobs and the barriers they face and key questions they had about the industry. We then found nine creative industry professionals to respond to those questions with a video. These videos are open to all young people wanting to get into the arts. To watch the videos, head to our Youtube channel now
Take Over the Future: In June and July 2021 we are working with a group of young people age 16-25 to design, plan and deliver the Youth Zone at the Westbourne Festival. The group will have £1,000 to manage. They will learn key skills in event management, festival design, health and safety, budgeting and much more. A few spaces left, so if you fancy joining, just email Joanne@grandjunction.org.uk.
Night of Power: In March 2021, we brought together seven incredible young poets and musicians to perform a live streamed event as part of our Comfort and Courage season of live gigs. We are very passionate about giving young people a voice and making sure they are given as many opportunities as possible to learn, develop and thrive. We have received funding from Westminster’s Brighter Futures Fund to deliver another event in 2022, so get in touch if you are a Westminster rapper, spoken word artist, musician or poet. We’d love to hear from you – email email@example.com
Junction Seniors: Starting in September 2021, we are delivering weekly creative youth workshops for young people age 11-16. Come and join us make theatre, play games, write scripts, develop new performances. All welcome and no experience in the arts necessary. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up now.
