Lesley Chakravoty

Lesley first became involved with the church through her son, who sang here with the St Mary Magdalene Primary School choir. Lesley now fulfils a key role – as Treasurer on the church council.

In this extract Lesley recalls her career as a teacher in one of the newly created comprehensive schools, discussing issues with staff and students.

Marina Kamara

Marie grew up in Blechynden Street near Latimer Road. After leaving school, Marie performed with Ballet Nègres, the first Black ballet company in Britain, before touring Europe as a fire-eating double act with her husband.

Here, Marie talks about her experiences as a dancer during the 40s and 50s.

In this extract Michele talks about how St Mary’s is very much a community hospital used by local people, including her own family.
