In this special guided tour you get to explore the Undercroft and Chapel and hear how this subterranean sanctuary was created through inventive engineering and expressive Victorian design.

Located in the Undercroft of St Mary Magdalene’s Church, The Chapel of St Sepulchre is the early work by the architect Sir Ninian Comper. When the founder and first vicar Fr West died in 1893 the chapel was created as a memorial to him. It’s enormous amounts of carved stone, stained glass, gilding, and ornamental paintwork take us back in time to the 15th century. Join us to learn about the heritage of this hidden gem and its recent restoration.

This tour explores the spaces beneath the church. If you would like a full tour of St Mary Magdalene’s church, you can book onto our Stone, Light & Colour: Explore the Arts at St Mary Magdalene’s tour HERE.

And if you have time, why not finish your visit with a relaxing coffee or delicious lunch in our canal-side café?
