The Scorpios

The legendary Sudanese-London collective open Summer Sessions with life-affirming soul and vintage psych funk.

Hailing from Central Sudan and now based in London after fleeing the fundamentalist takeover in that region, the 10-piece psychedelic Afrobeat band, The Scorpios, meld Arabic rhythms and guitar with raw Eastern funk and Western jazz.

Dismantling cultural barriers in pursuit of a unifying rhythmic bliss, heavy bass, synths, horns and percussions drive through traditional Sudanese forms to create a sound that owes as much to Detroit as it does to Khartoum. An electrifying evening of Afro-funk joy, presented by MARSM.

Alongside playing their classics, The Scorpios will debut songs from their anticipated new album; recorded at Abbey Road Studios and to be released this summer.

Summer Sessions performances have gone on sale at 50% of Grand Junction’s full capacity to allow for social-distancing between groups (a minimum of one metre). Up to four people from different households are permitted to be seated together indoors.
