From the Personal to the Stage: Creating Theatre with Communities – A workshop by Elias Matar (Director of Olive Jar)

Explore the approaches used to create the Olive Jar performance, which was produced with non-professional performers from the local community.

The workshop will introduce methods and techniques from different disciplines such as drama therapy, traditional storytelling, group facilitation and applied theatre. This workshop is aimed at young theatre makers (18 to 35-year-old) who are either already engaged in social theatre or would like to learn more about making theatre with communities.

London based director, playwright and performer Elias grew up in the Galilee where he founded Ibillin Theatre and El Bayet Centre for Performing Arts.  Directing credits include: ‘A Dress of My Own’, a feminist dance theatre production for El Amal Dance Company (Nazareth), ‘Needle and Thin Thread’ for Almanarah Institution (Nazareth), and ‘Nisan’s Darkness’, a musical production of El Karawan Choir (Ibillin).
