Memories of Place: A Community Exploration is a new heritage project exploring how memories of home, architecture and places of belonging can create new connections with St Mary Magdalene’s.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our Community Curatorial Panel and work with Grand Junction, the Iraqi Community Association, Shubbak Festival and local residents to shape a public exhibition bringing together findings from historical research, and community memories.

This programme is open to all, with Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) communities particularly encouraged to join and share their knowledge, experiences and perspectives.

Programme details:

  • This opportunity is open to anyone aged 18 and over
  • Volunteers will attend regular panel meetings throughout the project (dates to be confirmed)
  • Meetings will take place at Grand Junction, with opportunities to participate online where possible.

 

What you’ll do & who we’re looking for

  • A Community Curator helps research, interpret and shape the stories told through an exhibition.
  • As a Community Curator, you’ll work with Grand Junction’s Heritage & Volunteer Manager, project partners and other volunteers to explore architectural history, community memories and creative interpretation.  Together, you’ll research the connections between architectural traditions from the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, helping to reveal stories of cultural exchange that are often overlooked. You’ll also explore how memories of homes, places of worship, heritage sites and everyday spaces can deepen our understanding of St Mary Magdalene’s and its place within today’s local community. 
  • No previous curatorial or heritage experience is needed. We’re looking for people who are curious, open-minded and interested in learning from one another. Whether you’re passionate about history, architecture, storytelling, community heritage, or simply want to contribute your own experiences and perspectives, we’d love to hear from you.
