Community Banter Blog

By Sun 1 NovemberDecember 7th, 2020Community Banter

How can we build bonds and understanding in our local community through art and intergenerational sharing? Community Banter, is a project with young people that creates space for conversations with our communities.  These conversation will contribute to a largescale banner to be displayed at Grand Junction.

This is a blog created by young people about their community art research project: Community Banter. They are joining professional print-maker Sarah Pimenta, from Social Fabric, for a radical rethinking of what a community project can be. Through action-research with our local communities they will be exploring how this last year, lockdown and the ‘new normal’, has affected people’s mental health and wellbeing. They will explore stories of triumph, inspiration alongside challenges and hardships faced. They will manage budgets and develop promotional materials.

The first two sessions have seen them develop research ideas and start to create a visual language using lockdown stories to inspire collages and symbol making.

The artwork produced will form part of Sarah Pimenta’s exhibition at Grand Junction next year.

The exhibition will be co-curated, developed and produced by our incredible team of young people.

Subscribe to our blog and socials to see how the project unfolds.
